Dear Mayor & Council,

I write in regards to the proposed variance at 81 High Street. I am hoping Council will consider the significant removal of Garry Oaks that will be required should this second lot be approved and the significant blasting required in close proximity to Knockan Hill Park. I ask that Council seriously consider these matters. There are more of us with these large lots in the area who could also benefit financially from development. But it seems like we should be considering the big picture rather than an individual homeowners finances.

Does the new lot comply with the town's policies on setbacks from natural areas?

There were comments made about the lot directly to the south which was subdivided years ago. It is important to note a couple of points. That lot was already a large cultivated garden belonging to the home at 79 High Street so there was essentially no disturbance of the natural environment. The subdivision of that lot was also a condition of the homeowner at the time contributing the back portion of the property to the Town for parkland.

I would really encourage all of Council to visit the site and look at it not only from the High Street side but walk through the View Royal Park at 101 High Street and imagine the proposal from the parkside as well.

I understand completely that these decisions are not easy but there are many factors to weigh here, not the least being the opinion of the neighbours directly to the north of the proposed new lot.

Yours truly,

David Screech. 1256 Burnside Road West.
