    • CJF recommends 2.5m canopy lift from current ground for safety and maintenance prune.
    • All pruning to ANSI A300 standards.
    • Grand Fir 494 CJF advises white tree safety and maintenance prune.
  2. Tree Protection Barriers

    • Barriers must be in place prior to any construction activity.
    • Prohibit parking and approval permission of selected tree service contractor.
    • Maintain fences in good condition until landscape phase.
    • No loading dock.
    • No pruning above 50% of tree height.
    • No materials, fuel, equipment or debris stored within fenced zone.
    • No site signs or water within zone.
    • Construction of well-braced 1.2m or 2.4m tall wood / snow fence panel tree protection barrier around Tree Protection Zones (TPZ).
    • Maintain tree protection fence in good functioning condition until landscape changes are finished and only removed with CJF permission.
    • Construction material / waste / concrete outwash must not be placed against / stored within fence boundaries.
    • No grade changes (excavation or fill) within fenced zones.
  3. Temporary Machine / Materials Access

    • Location must be approved by CJF and prior to installation.
    • Temporary woodchip path / fill slope required between access to lower area.
    • Machine / materials access must be limited to within woodchip / plywood / access route.
  4. Soil Compaction Protection

    • Woodchip paths on plywood base required for access routes above and bottom north property line stairs.
    • 15-20cm thickness woodchip over non-woven geotextile (Texel 35c or similar product).
  5. Excavation

    • Working within project area, use smallest rubber tracked excavator suitable for job.
    • All excavation within tree protection zones must be supervised by CJF.
    • Do not allow excavator to climb/descend slope over Douglas-fir 491 35cm surface holding root 1 & 2.
    • Pruning of roots >2.5cm diameter must be done by hand.
    • In the following locations hand machine excavation with hand:
      • Lower property line between waterline and Grand fir 494.
      • South property line within Bigleaf maple 495 8.1m PRZ.
      • 1.5m either side of Douglas-fir 491 35cm surface holding root 1 & 2.
    • Prune excavation exposed roots >2.5cm diameter.
    • Hand prune exposed roots >2.5cm diameter severed or damaged beyond reasonable repair by machine/manual tools.
    • Hand prune with hand power tools.

CJF Project responsibilities:

  • Discuss canopy pruning goals / practice with tree service contractor prior to commencement.
  • Layout protection fence alignment with builder at site.
  • Consult on temporary machine / materials access slope design / location.
  • Supervise woodchip soil compaction protection with contractor.
  • Oversee temporary machine / materials access slope construction.
  • Oversee excavation along:
    • Lower property line between waterline and Grand fir 494.
    • South property line within Bigleaf maple 495 8.1m PRZ.
    • 1.5m either side of Douglas-fir 491 35cm surface holding root 1.
  • Prune excavation exposed roots >2.5cm diameter.
  • Consult on location of plantable walls where these encroach toward Douglas-fir 491 35cm surface holding root 1.
  • Remain available to other consultants, home owner and builder as requested.
