Subject: Big Oil lawsuit

Please try and get the following email onto tomorrow’s agenda.

We are writing to register our opposition to View Royal contributing money towards a lawsuit for suing Big Oil.

We agree that the climate crisis is real and can have negative consequences for residents. However, the role of municipal government is to provide local services such as police and fire protection, garbage collection and park maintenance. It is not the responsibility of local government to involve itself in matters outside of its jurisdiction.

Furthermore, we expect View Royal Council to be prudent managers of our property taxes dollars. Given the 10% tax increase residents are facing, we expect our Council not to waste our tax dollars on lawsuits that are outside of its roles and responsibilities.

Sincerely,

David and Susan Brown
