Hello Counsellor Mattson,
I appreciate you taking the time to respond to me directly.
While 800 units is an admirable start, I remain of the opinion that Council should not be putting up barriers to housing development. We need urgent action on housing and this proposed moratorium will only delay the delivery of desperately needed housing.
I am concerned that Council would even consider taking the approach of signalling View Royal’s disinterest in addressing the housing crisis by having developer’s wait to advance projects. The viability and affordability of projects are directly linked with time: more time = more expensive or non-viable projects.
I would urge you not to support this proposed moratorium.
Thanks
Sam

Hi Sam
The Town currently has 0ver 800 units approved for development including 600+ rental units . we need time to undertake an OCP review, while the Town will still be receiving completed development proposals, the motion is designed to let developers know that the town is redoing its OCP and it is in their best interests to wait to submit rezoning proposals until the town / community has outlined its development goals in a new OCP.
I hope this clarifies the purpose of the motion.
sincerely, Ron Mattson
