Development Moratorium Objection

To Mayor and Council:
Please accept this email and include it within the meeting package in relation to Item 13b of the upcoming June 6, 2023 Council meeting.
Mayor Tobias has proposed a six-month moratorium on all new development activities within View Royal. I would remind Mayor and Council that View Royal and Greater Victoria are in a housing crisis. To delay any housing development is not only tone-deaf, it is counterproductive to the needed action on housing. You were all elected to undertake the important work of Council including making development decisions. To opt not to do your work is a dangerous precedent and not consistent with your obligations as Council. It is imperative that View Royal Council reject the Mayor’s proposal. You must continue to make decisions and deliver the much-needed housing current and future residents of View Royal need.
Thank you,
Sam Barnes (1-235 Island Hwy)
