Dear Members of Council,
I was sorely disappointed to read of Mayor Tobias’ Proposal for a Moratorium on Rezoning Applications in View Royal. I think that the act of putting this motion forward is uninformed and disgraceful. We are living through a Housing Crisis. Halting development would put pressure on our community, its residents and the region, especially those members of our community in need. It is Council’s role to support all members of our community. Advancing this motion would not be in View Royal’s best interest.
The consequences of this motion are dire for not only residents of View Royal, but of the Region as a whole. Supporting this motion would be tone-deaf and irresponsible.
There is no reason for a moratorium to be imposed on rezoning for any length of time. The reasons provided by the Mayor in his motion are neither valid nor reasonable. Council should be removing barriers to development, not putting them up.
I trust members of Council see the unreasonableness of this Motion and I strongly urge you to disregard this outrageous motion put forward by Mayor Tobias.
