STAFF REPORT: Extension of Fire Dispatch Contract with District of Saanich
Report recommending the extension of the fire dispatch contract with the District of Saanich through 2017.
TOWN OF VIEW ROYAL REPORT TO COUNCIL
TO: Mayor & Council DATE: May 11, 2017 FROM: Paul M Hurst, Fire Chief MEETING DATE: May 16, 2017
Extension of Fire Dispatch Contract with District of Saanich
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council authorize the extension of the current Fire Dispatch Contract with the District of Saanich for the period of June 1, 2017 to December 31 2017.
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER’S COMMENTS:
I support the recommendation.
BACKGROUND / DISCUSSON:
Saanich Fire’s Regional Dispatch Service has evolved considerably since 2005 to include new technologies, equipment and personnel. In 2015, KPMG was engaged by the District of Saanich and at the direction of the District of Saanich to identify a total cost of service and develop an updated cost allocation model for partner municipalities.
To allow them time to work through the updated cost allocation model with participating municipalities, they are requesting an option to renew the existing Fire Dispatch and Communications Services Agreement (Attachment “A”) with the Town of View Royal for a period of June 1, 2017 to December 31, 2017 and include a 3.5% service fee increase.
It should be noted that the existing agreement, which has been in place since 2012 included a similar 3.5% per year increase.
COST IMPLICATIONS:
As portion of the existing contract, the cost implications fall within the approved 2017 budget allocation for the service.
a) $21,720.00 payment required on or before June 1, 2017 and b) $16,290.00 payment on or before October 1, 2017
ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
As this is a temporary renewal of an existing service contract, there are no alternatives
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council authorize the extension of the current Fire Dispatch Contract with the District of Saanich for the period of June 1, 2017 to December 31 2017.
