Chancellor Park Changes

From: Sid Tobias Sent: October-09-17 10:38 AM To: Mayor And Council Email Cc: Joce; Mom Subject: Chancellor Park Changes

Dear Mr. Mayor and Council

It has come to my attention that significant changes are planned for Chancellor Park, one of the only green spaces in our neighbourhood. I understand that there are plans to build a cement recreational area to facilitate a basketball court and a hockey net. This recreation area would consume most of the green space in the park. I applaud the municipalities concern with continuous improvement however I question the current plan in being of the best interest of current Park and immediate future use of the Park.

I and my wife walk to Chancellor Park on a daily basis. From what I have seen it is used extensively by local daycare schools, retired folks and mostly by folks walking their dogs. With the towns approval the building of Camden Green and Eagle Creek Village have increased the local population and the population of dogs. Currently these folks walk several blocks in order to access the park with no alternatives nearby. My first question is has a study been done on what current usage of the park is before a decision is made as to a future desired state? My second question is has the plan gone out for appropriate public review and comment? Surely if rezoning a land area requires an opportunity to hear from your fellow citizens a significant change in local usage of a park would require the same discourse. Thirdly, what is the cost of this new facility, removal of current sprinkler system and how does it balance with a return on investment. Lastly, does the current plan contravene existing municipal policy about allocation of green space unencumbered by structures?

From my perspective I think a decision of this magnitude requires a more adequate study of current use, desired future of existing space given increased development for residential density and an appropriate level of public review and comment.

I look forward to hearing from you on my questions and perhaps an inclusion for discussion with council.

Respectfully,

Sid Tobias and Jocelyn Joy 115 Conard St View Royal.
