Dear Mayor Screech and members of View Royal Council:

The directors of Juan de Fuca Performing Arts Centre Society thank you for your financial support of our work to design and build a performing arts centre on the West Shore. We are also grateful for your motion on March 1 to support our efforts in principle.

We have used a portion of your grant in aid to pay for some of the preliminary work for this project, as shown in our enclosed financial report.

Our work in 2016 included:

• investigating several potential sites for the performing arts centre;
• applying to several foundations for significant funding; and
• liaison with the proponents of the expansion of the casino in View Royal.

We based our 2016 work plan on a budget of about $100,000 to pay for the services of an architect and a theatre planner. Unfortunately, we were not able to obtain that level of funding because we are not a registered charity. We recently applied to the CRA for charity status.

We hope to learn the result of our charity application early in 2017. Our future work will depend on the result. We expect that our work will include refining our business plan, developing further promotional materials, and engaging professionals to assist us.
