Re: Christy Point development
Dear Mayor Screech and fellow members,
I live at 46 Kingham Place which faces SE towards the end of Christy Point. We've lived here for 5 years and love it. One of my favorite things about living here is the natural beauty and wonder of the year round wildlife. It's a special spot and is so exciting in the fall when the salmon spawn here - for about a month we watch them and with the salmon come the seals and otters. We watch osprey dive bomb for their food. We have resident eagles and their young, as well as our swans. Every year they nest along Christy Point somewhere, we all await their babies. Shrimp and crustaceans, the return of the buffleheads and grebes and cormorants. The herons and pileated woodpeckers and flickers and so many other birds who live and nest in the beautiful big old trees. Everyone living on the perimeter of Christy Point waters knows, loves and are so thankful for and feel so protective of all these creatures. I personally feel it is my responsibility to them to write this letter. We humans will survive.
Development at Christy Point is inevitable, all I ask is that you take this into deep consideration. My hope is that a mutually agreed upon building be built without disturbing any of that natural habitat. Don't build above the treeline, that should be the guideline. No taller than the tallest tree from an average shoreline perspective. This will also aid in reducing the size of the building creating a more manageable overall occupancy level.
And don't cut down any trees. Be mindful of huge plate glass windows that birds will fly into. Consider a color scheme that will blend into the natural environment, not shiny metal that will reflect in the sun into eyes from across the water. And instal a traffic circle if at ALL possible rather than a light. We all know traffic is a huge issue here as well.
I am unable to attend the meeting tonight but did want to share my thoughts.
Thank you
Lynn S.
