Good day Mayor and Council,

My name is Adam Hliva and I am a resident of View Royal who live's at 1965 Burnside Road West. I write to you on behalf of my family and my neighbour Andy White's (1985 Burnside Road West) family to seek council's assistance to help enforce the current traffic laws in front of our houses during school times and also to consider installing traffic calming devices to help slow traffic down.

My family and I have lived at our current address for over fours years and have for the most part been very happy here. However, we have noticed the traffic getting steadily heavier (people looking to avoid MacKenzie?) with many people going well above the posted speed limit during school times (above 30 km/hr) and outside of school times (above 50 km/hr). My wife is constantly yelling at drivers in the morning to slow down as she walks our two children to school. It is getting to the point that we fear for our safety almost every time we pull out of our driveway and I witnessed my neighbour's sister in-law almost get crunched this morning by a driver who was going well above 30 km/hr.

My hope would be that council would consider installing traffic calming devices similar to what has been installed on Watkiss Way on the opposite side of the school. In many ways, I would deem that this is needed even more on our side (Burnside Road) as the road is essentially a narrow hilly road with multiple blind spots; and our driveways exit directly onto it. My long term dream would be that council would consider making this stretch of road a 30 km/hr maximum zone permanently. This would be similar to action taken by the Municipality of Central Saanich on Wallace Drive and Central Saanich Road. These roads are 50 km/hr adjacent to the farm land areas but immediately goes down to 30/km/hr near the residential area's (just kinda makes sense to me) where children are playing, people are walking, property driveways exit onto the roadway, etc.

In conclusion, this is a major safety concern for our families and I hope and urge council to act on this issue before someone gets hurt.

Also, I've filed a complaint with West Shore RCMP to try and hopefully get some attention from the traffic control division as in four years we've never witnessed any monitoring on this portion of the school zone from their staff.
