TOWN OF VIEW ROYAL Council Report
TO: Mayor & Council DATE: November 24, 2020 FROM: Elena Bolster, Deputy Corporate Officer MEETING DATE: December 1, 2020
COUNCIL AND COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE 2021 MEETING SCHEDULE
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council adopt the Council and Committee of the Whole 2021 meeting schedule.
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER’S COMMENTS:
I concur with the recommendation
PURPOSE OF REPORT:
To provide Council with the 2021 schedule for Council and Committee of the Whole meetings.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed 2021 Council and Committee of the Whole meeting schedule is provided as Attachment “A”.
The Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities’ Convention is proposed to be held from Friday, April 16 to Sunday, April 18, 2021 in Nanaimo. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Annual Conference is set for Thursday, June 3 to Sunday, June 6, 2021 in Montreal. Neither of these events, should Council members wish to attend, conflict with the proposed 2021 Council and Committee of the Whole meeting schedule.
The 2021 Union of British Columbia Municipalities’ Convention is scheduled to run from Monday, September 13 to Friday, September 17, 2021 in Vancouver. This event conflicts with what would otherwise be the September Committee of the Whole meeting (September 14, 2021). It is proposed that the September Committee of the Whole meeting not be scheduled and instead, any business matters that would have gone to that meeting, be moved to the second Council meeting in September (September 21, 2021). As advisory committee meetings are scheduled for September 28, 2021, the Committee of the Whole meeting and second Council meeting are unable to be bumped to the following week.
Finally, in keeping with past practice over a number of years, the first proposed meeting in January is the Committee of the Whole (set for Tuesday, January 12, 2021) given that Town Hall will be closed for winter holidays and will re-open on Monday, January 4, 2021.
