Correspondence from S. DeStephanis re: OCP and Rezoning Application - 2401 Burnside Road West
Resident opposition citing the loss of green space and unsuitable location near a school.

Dear Mayor and Council.
I was at the council meeting this evening, but didn’t speak regarding the proposed Handydart depot. I was impressed with the large turnout and agree with all of the people who expressed opposition to this facility. I don’t think that I heard one person support this project. In addition to:
- Permanent loss of ever-shrinking green space and wildlife habitat
- Ground and water pollution damaging stream and fish habitat
- Air pollution
- Noise pollution
- Light pollution
- Increased traffic in an area that is already congested
- Unsuitable location in residential neighbourhood close to school
Additionally, I didn’t hear anyone mention this tonight, but in an age where we are trying to get kids (and adults) off their phones and computers and getting them outside engaged in healthy activity: Why evict the Victoria Bowmen from the property?
I am not a NIMBY I believe in providing services and contributing to all segments of our community. I am fully in favour of the therapeutic drug treatment centre which is being proposed by Our Place Society. I recognize that there may be some challenges from time to time, but as a society we have to bear some responsibility for all of our citizens.
The Handydart proposal though is absolutely the wrong place.
Thank you for listening to the concerns of your community.
Regards,
Susan De Stephanis
