To whom it may concern,
I live near the intersection of Burnside Road West and Watkiss. Since moving to Victoria 5.5 years ago, my family has been proud to call View Royal home. We love the area. We love the people. I know when Eagle Creek first went in people had concerns however, those concerns were met with something positive for the community. Convenience and a shopping area we didn't have. Traffic is awful in this area and I know from first hand experience, pre-Eagle Creek, when you forget something for your dinner meal, you skip that ingredient or choose something out because you can't get to a shopping store easily. The proposal for a bus depot at the intersection in question does not provide anything for our community. We will have to live with increased noise, increased traffic, increased risk to safety with an elementary school right there, loss of enjoyment of that area of the Galloping Goose, loss of community feeling - which that corner has been building with the addition of The Nest, and loss of quality of life with the noise generated by such a facility. That noise pollution carries well up to Kami Court when the wind is right. The traffic at that intersection, the Helmcken and Watkiss intersection, and Helmcken and Burnside Rd W is awful as it is. I can't imagine adding busses into the mix. It's asking for a nightmare for residents of View Royal.
The other consideration is Craigflower Creek - a salmon bearing Creek. I have lived on the west coast for most of my life. Our salmon are already facing huge problems that man has created and affecting the creeks and rivers that they come to is irresponsible, knowing what we do about the wild salmon population.
Our community does not want or need a bus depot, especially not plunked right in the middle of residential properties. A bus depot belongs in a commercial area, not a family neighbourhood. I'm not NIMBY, I support development IF it is smart. If it works for the community. A handydart facility does not work for us here in View Royal.
