Please accept my congratulations on your re-election as Mayor of the Town of View Royal. There will undoubtedly be no shortage of challenges to face, or opportunities to seize, over the next four years and I look forward to working alongside you and Council.
At the heart of every member of the Canadian Armed Forces is a desire to serve the community. By running for office you have demonstrated a similar sense of duty and commitment to the betterment of others. This is not always an easy choice, but I believe it is a deeply rewarding one. You have both my respect and gratitude for your willingness to accept this challenge.
As you know, the Royal Canadian Navy plays a vital role in protecting our maritime sovereignty and trans-Pacific trade routes. Our home on the West Coast, CFB Esquimalt, has a large footprint in the region and a significant number of military families and civilian employees on the Defence Team call View Royal home. British Columbia's economic future is closely tied to the Pacific, and those that serve in our Defence community, as well as those that live in yours, contribute significantly to the freedom, security and prosperity of the region.
We have always been humbled by the support our local communities provide, and hope that we in turn can provide similar support in return. It is these relationships which remind people of the value of their service and inspires a willingness to keep making the sacrifices they do.
As Base Commander, I am committed to continually building and enhancing the relationship between View Royal and CFB Esquimalt. If I can ever be of any assistance please don't hesitate to reach me at bcomd@outlook.com or (250) 363-5515.
Thank you for your service – and congratulations again,
J.R. Boyd Captain (Navy) Commander
