Re: Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association

I am writing with respect to crossing guard services in the Greater Victoria area. As you are likely aware, Beacon Services has indicated that it will cease to provide this service as of the 2018-19 school year.

While municipalities have always funded this service and it has not been organized by the District, we have been in active discussions about a solution to this issue. The Victoria Confederation of Parent Advisory Committees is not willing at this time to organize this program. A new non-profit, however, associated with VCPAC has volunteered to take on this responsibility in the short term including applying for grants and organizing the program.

Please accept this letter of introduction to the Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association. We are confident that the Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association will be able to step into the void left by Beacon Services and either be the long-term solution to the issue or work with the District and our various municipal partners to create a long-term solution.

Sincerely,

Piet Langstraat Superintendent of Schools
