RE: Letter of Introduction: New Provider for Crossing Guard Services

Dear Dawn,

I am writing in follow-up to my January correspondence, in which I advised that Beacon Community Services will discontinue management of the crossing guard program effective this July 1.

We've since held several discussions with various community leaders. I'm pleased to inform you that, as a result, a new non-profit society is being created to help meet the community's traffic safety needs.

Registration of a new Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association (GVCGA) is being finalized, under the leadership of Audrey Smith as president. You may also know Ms. Smith as chair of the Victoria Confederation of Parent Advisory Councils, which has participated in planning for the upcoming change. Along with other members of the new GVCGA, she is intimately familiar with the importance of traffic safety initiatives near local schools. You can contact Audrey by email GVCGA@mail.com and/or by mail 1225 Glyn Oak Pl. Victoria BC V8Z 5J4.

Beacon Community Services has been honoured to provide crossing guard services over the past decade. However, we see considerable merit in these services being administered and managed by an organization that is closely connected with the families in individual school communities as well as the Greater Victoria School District and municipality. And we're confident the new association is well-positioned to build on the strengths that have been created over the program's many years of operation.

We've also appreciated the GVCGA's careful, thorough preparation for taking on this community service, and we're pleased to work with them to support a seamless, effective transition.

To that end, we would greatly appreciate any courtesy you can extend to the new association. Thank you for your anticipated support and thank you, too, for your past assistance and partnership on this important community safety initiative.

Best regards,

John Kelly, CPA, CA Vice President Finance and Administration
