Dated August 14, 2018Safety issue for children and persons with disabilities

I completely agree with the email below. I feel unsafe walking there with my two children. In addition is there any plan to make vehicles slow down on six mile road- either a roundabout or at least a sign in indicating speed.

Thanks for your consideration,

Jennifer

Hello,

I am a View Royal resident, and my kids and I spend time at Thetis Lake on a regular basis. We walk from our home in the Thetis Vale neighbourhood to the lake, and always find that the section of Six Mile rd, north of the highway, where there is no sidewalk, to be quite dangerous. Several of my neighbours have also discussed this safety issue for a long time.

I believe that a sidewalk should be installed in this section to make this area safer and more accessible to everyone.

The section after the sidewalk ends is currently dangerous for pedestrians, as you have to walk in close proximity to very fast moving vehicles, and there is no curb to protect you. It also has reduced accessibility to persons with disabilities and strollers, as it is narrow. It also forces cyclists out into uphill traffic if they have to go around pedestrians walking along this section.

Extending the sidewalk north, all the way into the park would make a big difference, and make it a lot safer and accessible for everyone. Especially on busy summer weekends, when the parking lot gets full, and many lake users have to park south of the highway and walk up this dangerous section.

I have attached a picture showing this area, and how dangerous it is currently.

Let’s make this area that so many of us use, safer for everyone.

Thank you,

Dan Hedekar, 11 Newcastle Court View Royal
