OUR VISION
The vision of Extreme Outreach Society is to remove barriers caused by poverty which will result in stronger and healthier communities.
OUR MISSION
The mission of Extreme Outreach Society is to break the cycle of poverty, homelessness and addiction at an early age. We provide unique programs and services for underprivileged kids and their families in an effort to inspire productive lifestyles and develop future leaders, thereby strengthening communities.
OUR PHILOSOPHY
- We believe that child homelessness can be prevented when families are strong.
- We believe that the cycle of poverty in a community can be broken when the younger generation is taught the importance of serving in their own community.
- We believe that local churches and businesses should play a role in supporting families in need.
- We believe that basic needs such as clothing, shelter, and food must be met before a child is able to develop socially, spiritually, and cognitively in a healthy manner.
- We believe that if a child has a consistent mentor, they will be much more likely to make healthy living choices.
- We believe that the future of a nation is in the hands of its children, therefore, healthy kids equal a healthy world.
PROGRAMS
All the Programs that we run are organized in our office at the Coffee House, which is the property we are requesting tax exemption for.
BBQ Outreach Program
This outreach serves families in need in the Greater Victoria Area. In the Spring and Fall we host a weekly BBQ outreach in a low income area of Victoria, where we serve up 150 or more hot dogs each week, and train the kids in how to cook on a BBQ and serve food to their community. 1-5 volunteers needed every week the program runs, to serve over 100 families for 2 hours each time.
Superkids Summer Camp Program
This program is held annually for 1 week every summer. We take 100 underprivileged children from the Greater Victoria Area to Camp Barnard in Sooke for a week of a true overnight summer camp experience. At camp we cultivate positive life skills, teach kids about the environment, and develop future leaders in a way that appeals to kids. We do all of this with the help of our wonderful volunteers and the donations of local families and businesses. 30 Volunteers minimum for the entire week of camp.
Extreme Annual Christmas Dinner
This is one of our main focuses every year. Families in need that are connected to our SuperKids and BBQ outreach programs come together to celebrate the joy of Christmas with a traditional hot turkey meal and gifts. We serve approximately 500 turkey dinners, and every child gets a stocking and gift, and there are door prizes for the adults. This is all accomplished through the hard work of a multitude of volunteers and donations from local families and businesses. 50-100 Volunteers make this day happen from 9am to 4pm the day of the dinner, plus countless hours of prep time leading up to it.
Warm-A-Soul Stocking Program
Every year, we fill over 1000 stockings with gifts and treats. Although we focus primarily on children who are caught in the cycle of poverty, we also support people who end up at shelters, detox and on the streets of Greater Victoria – those who would otherwise never receive a gift. There is an endless stream of volunteers that put these stockings together every year. We have 1 day that we have stocking stuffers come in from 9am to 3pm or later to fill all the stockings. Minimum of 30 people, upwards of 75 as the day goes by, not all at one time, they come in groups throughout the day.
Youth Job Skills Training Program
This program is run in the Coffee House, for the Coffee House. This program is free of charge for youth between the ages of 16 and 22. Youth in the program commit to 4 hours per week for 8 weeks and receive training in the areas of: Barista training, light cooking, FoodSafe, general workplace mentorship, and additional important skills. Many of the youth participants have found their first jobs because of the skills they have obtained through our program. The number of volunteers for this fluctuates and depends on who is volunteering at the Coffee House at the time, usually 1 or 2 volunteers while the training is happening, 4 hours/week for 8 weeks.
