Re: 2018 G7 Leaders Summit RCMP Resource Redeployment

I am writing to provide an update on the anticipated impacts of the G7 Leaders Summit. As you are aware, the Government of Canada will be hosting the G7 Leaders Summit in Charlevoix, Quebec, on June 8-9, 2018. The G7 constitutes a Major Event under the Provincial Police Service Agreement (PPSA) and Municipal Police Unit Agreements (MPUA), and as such, there is a requirement for the RCMP to temporarily redeploy resources to assist in delivery of Canada's security commitment.

As per Article 8.4 of the MPUA, the Commissioner may, in consultation with the Minister and the CEO (Mayor or designate), temporarily withdraw up to 10 per cent of the Members of your Municipal Police Unit (including any necessary equipment) to perform any duties or functions with respect to a Major Event. All costs of withdrawal and redeployment, including salary, transportation and maintenance, for the duration of the entire event, are to be paid by the Government of Canada at 100 per cent.

BC RCMP Headquarters has been asked to provide 700 Members from across the Province for this event, and has identified a preliminary list of detachments and provincial offices from which resources are to be drawn. Some of these members may be drawn from your Municipal Unit. It is our expectation that Detachment Commanders will communicate with you the requirements and plans of each Municipal Unit.

The RCMP have taken steps to minimize the impact to service delivery; however, we strongly encourage you to work closely with your Detachment Commander to ensure that front-line policing is maintained.
