June 5, 2018Page 1401 section

Don Evans of Our Place Society apologizing for a premature provincial announcement and clarifying the project status.

2. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
May 15, 201894 Talcott Road

From: Don Evans Sent: May-15-18 4:07 PM To: David Screech MayorScreech@viewroyal.ca; Mayor And Council Email mayorandcouncil@viewroyal.ca Subject: Letter to Mayor and Council re Therapeutic Recovery Community Government Announcement Importance: High

Dear Mayor and Council,

I understand that yesterday’s announcement by the provincial government regarding our proposed plans for opening a Therapeutic Recovery Community in View Royal caused concern and disappointment to the council.

During yesterday’s press conference and all media interviews since, we have made sure to mention that we are still in the process of rezoning with the Town of View Royal. Minister Judy Darcy also mentioned the application in the Q&A section following the announcement, and at both of our public open houses held at 94 Talcott Road, we emphasized the need for both funding and rezoning.

If this message did not come across as clearly as you would have liked, I’m deeply sorry. Your support is paramount to the success of this project and I would never want to do anything that may be seen to diminish your support.

Getting three separate Provincial government agencies onboard to contribute to this project was no easy task and I want you to know that it was their decision to make a public announcement yesterday.

The project is dependent on three conditions: private funding, government funding, and rezoning of the property at 94 Talcott Road and with yesterday’s announcement, we are now two-thirds of the way to our goal.

We are holding our first neighborhood advisory group meeting tonight and will be holding the community consultation meeting on Wednesday, June 13th. (note: date changed)

I’m truly sorry for any issues that this announcement may cause the council and I will do whatever I can to help out with any issues that may arise.

I look forward to continuing our positive relationship.

Sincerely, Don

Don Evans, Executive Director 919 Pandora Avenue, Victoria, BC V8V 3P4 t: 250-388-7112 ext 239 f: 250-220-4026
