Proposed Resolution: Revisions to Roles of RCMP Auxiliary Constables
Resolution for the 2016 Association of Vancouver Island Coastal Communities meeting regarding auxiliary constable training.
Proposed Resolution to the 2016 AVICC - Revisions to Roles of RCMP Auxiliary Constables:
WHEREAS in January 2016 revisions to the roles of RCMP Auxiliary Constables came into effect; including the elimination of Auxiliary Constables ride-along’s with RCMP members in police cars and the discontinuation of firearms familiarization training;
AND WHEREAS public safety is a critical objective of BC municipalities, Royal Canadian Mounted Police detachments and city police departments; with auxiliary police serving an important purpose in providing public safety programs and in the delivery of basic police service;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Province of British Columbia be requested to reinstate Auxiliary Constables to ride-along with RCMP members in police cars, and reinstate firearms familiarizing training.
