Re: Proposal of Commercial Truncking on Hallowell Road

We are residents of the Town of View Royal and live on Hallowell Road where commercial trucking has been proposed to go parallel to this road by the Esquimalt First Nations. We strongly reject the proposal for the following reasons.

  1. This is a residential area NOT an industrial area. Commercial trucks should not be allowed to operate in this area.
  2. Our health and surrounding environment have been impacted by the adjacent cement plant which produces air pollution such as hazardous dust (likely heavy metal dust) and noises. We should not be further harmed by commercial trucks that generate air pollution with emission, noises and possible contaminated soil.
  3. Residents of the Hallowell Road area should not be further loaded with a harmful living environment while the first nation receives all benefits to their so called economic development.
  4. As much as we would like to support the first nation’s economic development, residents of View Royal and the public should not be responsible for the costs of the proposal including hazardous environment with impact on human health, expenses of constructing the road to be suitable for trucks and future maintenance fees etc.
  5. Residents of Hallowell Road neighbourhood should not be burdened by the ill advised legacy of the respective current Mayor and Councillors who were elected to serve for the good of the View Royal residents.
  6. Trucks will put E&N trail users and cyclists in great danger on the same road.
  7. Trucks on Hallowell Road will prevent the further residential development of the surrounding neighbourhood in View Royal.
  8. This proposed project has no value to the public but benefits only two groups of people i.e. the Esquimalt First Nations and Relmax. This is societal incorrectness at its worst.

We urge the Mayor and Councillors of View Royal to dismiss the commercial trucking proposal on Hallowell Road.
