Community Garden Policy Proposal submission to Town of View Royal

1. Participation will require an annual membership payment by each gardener to the new garden administration for the community garden expenses and maintenance costs. The annual membership will provide members with the opportunity to participate in fundraising activities and events. A membership will provide gardeners with the opportunity to develop leadership and community building skills as they participate in the society. Members can attend workshops that are sponsored by the society free of charge. Members would receive the society newsletter.

2. The Community Garden will elect its own executive which will ensure the: a. Physical maintenance of garden area, i.e. lawn mowing, weeding path-ways and beds, care of common areas, compost box. b. Creation and enforcement of regulations for usage of the site as agreed to by gardeners. c. Allotment of plots to gardeners and maintain an active waiting list. d. Community Garden calls an annual general meeting.

3. The Town of View Royal will provide water and use of the Community Garden shed and compost facility.

4. The Town of View Royal will inform participants of liability safeguards in place to protect gardeners.

5. Existing gardeners have right of first refusal in plot assignment. Existing gardeners who wish to exchange their plot for a different plot will be accommodated before the wait list gardeners are assigned plots.

6. New members will be admitted on a first come, first serve basis with View Royal residents having first priority. However, at the spring deadline, membership will be open to non-View Royal residents if plots are available.

7. The community garden will be responsible to create a design for the additional gardens, working with the municipality to ensure the design meets the Town of View Royal standards.

8. The View Royal Park Community Garden Society will engage in fund-raising for construction and maintenance expenses in the garden.

9. Membership in the Society ($5) will be automatic for all new members and all current members who choose to take out a membership and shall be renewed annually.

10. The Community Garden's mission is to be: a. Promote inclusivity and be multi-generational b. Provide opportunities for gardening education through open houses and workshops c. Create a children's garden d. Having a seed exchange and plant sale e. Stage on-site events and celebrations f. Provide produce to local food bank g. Have a not-for profit market on site
