Dear Council Members & Staff,
We have recently moved to Vancouver Island at 278 Island Highway, Strata Lot #43 next door to the subject development lot. A staff member answered my queries about the proposed building site.
Our main concern is regarding access and egress on Island Highway from our complex. The proposal for the parkade entrance is to be next to our site opposite Beaumont Avenue. At present there is no left turn holding lane below the road incline from Stormont Road to our laneway. With busy traffic volumes it is often difficult to access Island Highway. Permitting double the vehicles requiring access to the roadway next door only increases safety concerns.
There is enough road allowance to realign the road to include a left turn bay such as along Island Highway eastwards to Admirals Road. Apparently there is no present budget for this roadwork. We submit that approval for the proposed development include such a consideration, or that the parkade entrance be moved further west on the site.
