CAO UPDATE

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT the report dated June 8, 2023 from the Chief Administrative Officer titled “CAO Update” be received for information.

PURPOSE OF REPORT:

To provide Council with information from the Office of the CAO regarding material events and happenings at Town Hall.

BACKGROUND:

An Administrator’s report for the Committee of the Whole meeting to apprise Council of the highlights of significant activities of the Town.

INFORMATION:

Administration:

Front counter staff saw an increase of residents attending Town Hall with the property tax notices being mailed during the third week of May.

The annual Volunteer Appreciation Dinner was held at the Victoria Scottish Community Centre at the end of May and was attended by approximately 110 volunteers and their guests.

In late May, the Corporate Officer along with Councillors Brown and MacKenzie attended a meeting hosted by the City of Colwood to discuss potential revised terms of reference for an accessibility committee in response to the new Accessible BC Act. Discussion included a desire to see the consultant, once selected, to engage with the community in the development of the fledgling accessibility plan; and elected representation on the committee simply through the host community to ensure a workable committee size. The Mayor of Metchosin identified the range of options for potential involvement by the Intermunicipal Advisory Committee on Disability Issues (IACDI). The group had an overview of the draft terms of reference that had previously been presented to the seven municipal councils and agreed it would be beneficial to hold a follow-up meeting in advance of IACDI’s next regularly schedule meeting to further consider the terms of reference.

A poll was conducted from May 3rd to 31st seeking public input into which theme should be included in the call to artists for the Helmcken Road Trestle Mural project. The Town received 771 responses and the “trees/forest” theme received the highest ranking.
