Message:

I am sending you this letter today as my husband, and I are concerned about the proposed redevelopment of Cambridge Motel property. It has been clear for years that these buildings are at the end of their life, and it is time to redesign the area, but this current proposal will change the area's character and significantly impact traffic on Island Hwy. We have been residents of View Royal for the last 10 years. We travel on Island Hwy twice a day, and the congestion has not been improved with the redevelopment of the main highway out of town. This stop-and-go traffic impacts our environment and the mental wellness of the resident of View Royal.

We would like to see a more balanced approach with considerations for the community’s needs and concerns. Redevelopment is essential and very much supported by us. We encourage the council to work with the developers to find a better solution that is more in line with the existing concerns of the neighbourhood. We acknowledge that the ministry and our housing crisis are pushing for larger units on properties, but in this specific location, 273 units and two towers over 6 floors are too much.

Three towers, with 4 floors, would provide lots of housing, would not impede the view or damage the visual landscape of the area, and not impact the commute we all suffer each day.

We hope residents’ opinions and thoughts will be considered during decision-making. We love our community of View Royal and want to balance the need for additional housing and the impact a significant development would have on our community.
