BACKGROUND

  • Traffic Counter: <50km/hr all instances
  • Currently two (2) existing speed humps on Stormont Road
  • Project included at request of Council
  • Budget: $8,000

Council directed staff to seek other options due to Staff concerns regarding:

  • Precedence setting
  • Effectiveness of a third speed hump in significant short proximity of others
  • Emergency service concerns

A third speed hump would cause distance between each other to be half to a third of the distance stipulated in the Traffic Calming Policy #5200-016

  • Precedence (speeds and location of measures)
  • Additional and cumulative delays for fire trucks and emergency services

CHICANE - PROPOSAL

Quick-Build Principles: Town of View Royal Active Transportation Network Plan:

  • Flexible
  • Inexpensive
  • Allows for adjustments post implementation
  • Does not require removal of existing infrastructure
  • Geometric layout of the road does not require changes
  • No significant impacts to utilities or drainage
