PURPOSE: To establish a policy for the use of a territorial acknowledgement.

POLICY: A territorial acknowledgement will be made at the beginning of all regular Council and Committee of the Whole meetings by the presiding member.

PROCEDURES:

1.0 The Presiding Member will select one of the following acknowledgements to provide as part of the “Call to Order” at the meeting:

1.1 We recognize the Lekwungen speaking people, known today as the Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation, and that their historic connections to these lands continue to this day.

1.2 We are grateful to live and work on the unceded traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation.

1.3 The Town of View Royal is located on the homelands of the Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation.

1.4 We are within the traditional territories of the Esquimalt Nation and Songhees Nation.

2.0 The Recording Secretary will reference the acknowledgement in the meeting minutes.
