Hi Alex,
I spoke with Laura and she referred me to you. We live at 27 Jedburgh Road. Our home sits directly opposite the entrance to Jedstone Place. We are significantly impacted by the proposed easing of parking restrictions on the Jedstone side of Jedburgh. It makes getting in and out of our driveways very challenging/impossible if people are parked at the telephone pole/under the Maple tree on the boulevard (where the signs have just been removed on Jedburgh).
Our home is an older home with established plantings and a narrow single car driveway access to the house, and a second narrow driveway access via the sideyard, to our backyard. The development resulted in significant narrowing of Jedburgh Road (by approx. 1/3) with the tightest point exactly where our driveways come out. It is the pinch-point of the road.
If/when vehicles are parked on the opposite side of the street directly across from our home (as happened frequently during the building of Jedstone), it limits our turning radius to the degree that we have actually been trapped at times, unable to get out of our driveway(s) until the vehicle moves. Add to this the legally parked vehicles in front of our home and often just off the edge of our house driveway, we have virtually no line of sight and must also back out further into the street to get past these vehicles. Cars parked on the other side as well, makes this extremely difficult and if it is an SUV, truck, or service vehicle (Telus, Hydro etc.), impossible.
We did not object to the Jedstone development or the fact that each home has a suite. However, our support was in large part based on the city and developer assuring residents in the public meetings that to get zoning approval, parking would be provided by the Jedstone residents, for the Jedstone residents, on Jedstone. This has not come to pass. The developer put up "No Parking" signs early in building phase one to ensure that large construction trucks could get in an out of Jedstone. Those signs remained up until very recently, this despite my conversation with View Royal city well over a year ago about why this was being permitted. All the Jedstone tenants were and continue parking out on Jedburgh Road (often 10+ vehicles for the 8 homes located on Jedstone).
I am still unclear as to why angle parking was not put in, and instead there is a huge grass verge on Jedburgh. This verge has contributed greatly to the parking problem. It is a large, dry and weedy waste of valuable space. The only saving grace for us has been that no parking was permitted on the Jedstone side of Jedburgh, thereby giving us reasonable egress to our property.

Good Day, I am writing to let you know our home and many other on Jedburgh Road have concerns that parking is now allowed on both sides of the street after the removal of 2 no parking signs by the town recently, plus one sign on Jedstone Place. So far we aren’t seeing an issue and its because people have not realized the signs are gone. But we are very concerned that if parking is allowed on both sides traffic will be impacted especially the fire department and emergency vehicles, but also RV’s may not be able to get home because of this narrow street especially on the curved part of the road.
The problem stems from the building of Jedstone where those homes were to have sufficient parking for their tenants, which they do but they don’t allow them to park in their driveways, which I understand is their right. It also appears the no parking sign has been removed from one side of their street and it would be helpful if the town went to the strata and told them to have their tenants park on their own street and not Jedburgh Road, the majority of our issues come from tenants on Jedstone. So if the town could do us a favour and ask this to happen we may have more room on our own street for parking for our homes which would eliminate this issue.
The other solution to this is the wasted boulevard on either side of the entrance to the Jedstone development, it would be beneficial to all if the sidewalk be brought closer to those properties and angle parking be added, this would be the best solution for all and something the town should have required the developer Wayne Hopkins to be responsible for. But this didn’t happen and now our street which I have lived on since 1975 is a nightmare, we need this rectified.

As residents of Jedburgh place we have become more and more disturbed with the parking situation on our street. People from Jedstone Place are constantly parking in front of our residence, frequently blocking our driveway or parked near the centre of the road.
We have to pull way out into the middle of the road to see if the road is clear, and several close calls with oncoming traffic have occured.
Now it seems that the 'no parking' signs across the street have disappeared and that would be a further issue for us to get out of our driveway. Also in case of emergencies the fire trucks or ambulances would not be able to get through making it very unsafe for everyone.
Please reconsider this crazy idea. Residents of Jedstone Place should be able to park on their own street as we were initially told would be the case.

Hi there,
Regarding safety of emergency vehicles and residents effective vehicle access I want to notify you that some signs are down on the even side of the road. Please come review to get them back up for safety for all.
Jedburgh Road already became less wide with the sidewalks to allow parking on both sides if the road will be a bad safety problem for emergency vehicles, in addition to our own. There are way too many vehicles already along Jedburgh Road.
Why is it not mandatory to just park in your residential spot and leave our road safe, and clear!
Please let me know if I can be of assistance to help maintain the safety on Jedburgh Road.

Hello Alex and John,
A neighbor pointed out that the town plans on removing the No Parking signs along Jedburgh Road. As a resident of this road, I am strongly opposed to this. I live at 17 Jedburgh Road and have been unable to leave my driveway on numerous occasions due to people illegally parked on the other side of the road (where the signs currently are).
My understanding is that if people are parked on both sides, the emergency access plan is to have the firetrucks push the cars out of the way to get to my house since both firetrucks and ambulance would not be able to get through. This sounds like a terrible plan.
Also, how are the garbage and recycling trucks supposed to get down the road? Will we miss pickup on the weeks that the road is blocked and they are unable to get through?
Overall, I think the No Parking signs should remain where they are. The ones along Jedstone Place (where a lot of the people parking come from) have been removed so the residents can park on that road, and the neighbor I spoke to said she was going to alert those residents that the signs have been removed. Hopefully this will alleviate some of the parking issues on this road, that have been caused by the development (which was supposed to address parking but obviously didn't).
I am happy to discuss this further, and will also be following up with a phone call.

Dear Sirs,
It has come to our attention that the 'no parking' sign has been removed from in front of 24 Jedburgh Road.
We would like to register our disagreement with this action. Allowing cars to park alongside of the sidewalk presents hazards for children and emergency vehicles because of the narrow nature of the road due to the sidewalks. We were assured during the construction of the development on Jedstone Place that all parking would be on the opposite of the road only (and not on the sidewalk sign).
Tenants of the Jedstone Place properties should only be parking on Jedstone Place or at their place of residence.
Please take steps to reinstall the no parking sign in front of 24 Jedburgh Road.

Hi Mayor and Council, John and Alex,
As we know you are aware, the issue of parking on Jedburgh Road is very real problem since Jedstone Place went in, and tenants began parking on Jedburgh instead of in the cul-de-sac/in their own driveways. We very much appreciated John Rosenberg's visit last Monday to take a look at the issue for himself. He acknowledged that the road has indeed been significantly narrowed since the addition of the new sidewalk. If cars are parked on both sides of this road now, it narrows the passage of other vehicles to the point where large service vehicles such as fire trucks, garbage and recycle, and licensed but wider vehicles CANNOT get through if there are cars parked on both sides of the road.
In fact, your own trucks parked ON THE SIDEWALK when they arrived this morning to put up the new parking signage. This is because if they actually parked where they were putting the parking signs - they would have blocked the road to vehicle traffic!!!! I have attached pictures. The irony of this really cannot be minimized. You can see the centre line of the road clearly in one of the pictures (not painted, but a visible line from when the road was dug up by Fortis and repaved).
In addition, parking in this stretch makes it impossible for us to access and leave our own driveway. If we need to get out with our (small - 22ft) motorhome, we would need to park it in the street to guarantee being able to get it on to the street if we want to use it. Other vehicles will not be able to get through this narrow lane if we do this, if anyone parks in front of our home at the same time (the side on which everyone is parking currently). I've attached a picture with my husband standing in the remaining roadway with our motorhome legally parked against the right curb - centre line clearly visible on his right.
This is not acceptable, and we sincerely hope that this decision will be revisited ASAP, before there is a serious accident, a fire, or garbage pickup is impacted.

I also am wondering if consideration should be given to turning radius out of driveways in some spots on the road?
I am extremely happy that the no parking signs are gone from Jedstone place. The residents and tenants of those homes park daily in front of my house leaving no parking for anyone else. Hopefully now they will park in front of their own houses.

Now there is "parking signs" on Jedburgh Road which is causing added congestion - stopping traffic to allow one car through only!!! Emergency vehicles can't get through... Thankfully this was a small car!
Help us keep Jedburgh Road safe and change the signs back to not parking! This is so wrong!!!
Please let us know what mire we can do top keep our road safe for travel!

I see the signs now say that parking is allowed. This has resulted in someone legally parking but the road is definitely not passable by emergency vehicles, since regular vehicles can barely get by.
Allowing parking on the curb side of Jedburgh Rd is definitely not a safe option since the picture below shows what is happening.
I would like the town to reconsider the removal of the no parking signs

Hi there, I am sure by know you have heard parking was tight on Jedburgh Road this morning. This was caused by a neighbor making a point (that we didn’t need to happen) by parking their motorhome on the street on the side we are now allowed to park, then the neighbor beside her has a moving truck in their driveway, but what you need to know that even though it was tight the garbage truck was able to go between the car and motorhome. After discussion with other neighbors we really don’t want the signs to be taken down, its not like people are parking there and really will only be used for overflow. So please allow things to continue so we can monitor and keep track of issues as they arise.
Also again the neighbors discussed the property on either side of Jedstone and all agree the sidewalk needs to be moved closer to the fence and angle parking be allowed, but this would be an expense the town needs to consider, again this was promised by the developer and town when this development was being built. And secondly the tenants of Jedstone need to park on their own street, this would eliminate our parking issues. Please advise their strata to notify the homes that they can now park on one side of their own street as the no parking sign is gone from one side.

I see you have done it again; made a change to our infrastructure without talking to the tax payers. It wouldn't be the first time and probably not the last. I'm not sure you had a situation like the attached photo in mind when you changed this portion of Jedburgh from no-vehicle-parking to parking on both sides, or did you? There is an RV parked on our road, taking up nearly the entire Rd, making it nearly impossible to drive through.
We live at 17B Jedburgh Rd, and I would hope you don't plan on doing this to our section of Jedburgh. And if you do, please give me lots of heads up so I can sell my house and move to another municipality. Because..., if a vehicle parks across from my driveway, I can't get in or out. And if I can't get in, I don't think an emergency vehicle can either. Then it won't be me talking to you, it will be my insurance lawyers.
Very disappointed, but not surprised.

We have 200+ vehicles belonging to residents that access Jedburgh Road (residents of Garrington, Jedstone and Jedburgh) and now Jedburgh Road is being blocked for us to safely travel through our road due to vehicles blocking the sight line and our one or both sides of the road to allow passage???? For a car to stop for another car to pass is inappropriate for one, for it too be blocked enough for and emergency and/or garbage truck not able to get through is ludicrous!
The vehicles on the road are mostly from the secondary suites of homes?
Who, and why, was the decision made to remove the no parking signs without residents who are not notified to offer input to OUR safety!
We pay our taxes! We pay for safety of the roads and right now that is lacking for Jedburgh Road! Our sight lines to get off Jedburgh Road, for safety, is not good either side for cars. Trucks are higher and they may be able to see though cars have a tough time to see effectively. This parking issue that causes blokage on the road is the icing in the cake!
The Jedburgh Road being clear to drive through is an urgent matter that had been caused by View Royal Municipality not doing what they agreed to do a Jedstone Place was created, and shared with us all. I believe we are not meeting Ministry of Transportation laws of width and accessibility requirements of a Road.
What more can we, the owners, that pay the taxes, do to make our road safe again?
Can, and how, can Residents speak about our Jedburgh Road Safety issues to get things done compared to what it took to get the no parking removed???? Who, what, and why was the decision for the no parking to be changed to parking on the parts of the road being allowed?

Since the signs have been up people are constantly parked in the new spots, and because people are parked on the other side, I was barely able to get my mini van through so it is 100% guaranteed that emergency vehicles, the recycling and garbage trucks and any other larger vehicles will be unable to get through. Because Jedburgh has restrictions on turning off/on it, we cannot solely use the other access on Jedburgh. I apologized for being a pain on this matter, but I really think the town needs to reconsider allowing parking along the curb.
