Email urging Council to prioritize electric vehicle purchases for the Town fleet, including fire trucks.

Dated: November 7, 2022Suggests lifecycle cost savings of EVs more than offset premium costs

From: margaret and Ian Brown Sent: November 7, 2022 10:52 AM To: Mayor And Council Email mayorandcouncil@viewroyal.ca Subject: vehicle replacement policy

Dear Mayor and Council,

Please forgive me if this is a repeat email. Somehow it did not appear in my "Sent" mail so I wanted to be sure it got to you before the COW meeting this week.

Re: The Vehicle Replacement Plan Update, I urge you to review carefully the statements about replacing gas and diesel vehicles with electric. First, the premium cost of electric vehicles is not "somewhat offset by lifecycle cost savings". According to most auto and driver publications, the premium cost is more than offset by lifecycle cost savings. Please research this before making any more gas or diesel purchases, or even hybrid purchases. The overall cost to the Town is less for electric vehicles than for gas and diesel vehicles. Secondly, there do exist electric fire trucks on the market. Council would be doing us all a favour by mandating researching these vehicles before purchasing yet another fossil fuel fire truck.
