For 2 years now I have been asking for a speed bump to be put on the hill in front of our entrance on Glentana Rd. We have been overwhelmed with the speed of cars going up and down the hill. It is a serious safety issue for our children and residents crossing the road to go to school, to the playground in the Co-op or just crossing period. With the vehicles parked on the road it creates a massive blind spot leaving our driveway. You are almost halfway into the lane before you can see if it's clear, but most times it is not and the people honk at you as they speed past crossing the yellow line instead. As a professional driver I don't understand why this is constantly being ignored. The other side of hill on Glentana Rd. has a speed bump at the same point and at least 3 vehicle lengths of yellow line on the curb at Falstaff to give them clear vision for oncoming traffic speeding up the hill, which is not needed as they are looking downhill so they have a great field of vision. They only need 1 car length of yellow curb and they still have a perfect view of traffic. I have tested the view with my personal vehicle and also my work truck to confirm. Safety is best evaluated visually and hands on or just plain common sense. It's like not allowing left turns onto Rudyard from Helmcken until 8:15am, but as soon as kids are being dropped off and crossing left turns are allowed and 90% of the traffic is just cutting through and still going too fast. I see it first hand almost everyday and it just makes no sense. One day someone will get hurt. Should be the opposite on turning time or no turns at all.
We are also being overwhelmed by residents of the Glenn using our driveway as a turnaround.
So please, please, pretty please install 1 single speed bump on Glentana inbetween 1500 and the middle of 1501 right in the middle of the incline. We would appreciate it and the future generations will too. If you can find $50 000 to renovate the council chambers for 2 more chairs then it should be easy to use $1500 for a speed bump, maybe even less.
P.S. The View Royal engineer has already tried to tell us that View Royal doesn't put speed bumps on municipality streets, which we all know is wrong, because we see them everywhere.?
