Letter from Lila and Ken Wohlberg re Polly Place water access

To Whom It May Concern;

We are responding to the public notice regarding the marking of Polly Place water access.

Question #1

We are only in favour of marking public access to waterfront locations if:

• it does not adversely affect the neighbourhood, especially the adjoining properties
• the money spent on these locations is worth the cost of identifying, fixing up etc.; quite often it is not good value for your dollar.

Question #2

We are NOT in favour of marking/delineating water access to Polly Place.

Comments:

1. What do you mean by the word delineate? Does this mean putting survey posts at the four corners of the property or a fence up – What?
2. Signage indicating water access at the end of Polly Place is definitely going to affect the adjoining properties, especially 137 Kingham Place (eg. loss of privacy, could make it difficult to get by parked cars to get out of their drive way). The surrounding neighbours could also be affected since there would be more traffic, there is minimal parking in this area, and potential problems with parties, drinking, vandalism etc.
3. Has any member of council looked at the access to the water at the end of Polly Place? A lot of work would need to be done, since there is a 6 to 8 foot bank with bush and trees on the bank. If you do get down to the water, there is a good chance you will not get any further because the tide is out a lot, during the summer day hours. You are then left with a mud flat that is almost impossible to traverse.
4. There are other water access points on Portage Inlet that would be better suited to develop. The park like setting at the end of St. Giles street would be a good place to start (even if the south end of the property is not in View Royal) because there is easy access to the water and you are able to launch a kayak even when the tide is out.
5. We do not know how much money you are planning to spend, but any amount is too much when there are so many better ways to spend that money ( eg. fixing the asphalt path along the waterfront in the park at the end of St.Giles street) or just keeping our taxes down.
