Subject: Commuter Challenge Invitation

Hi Mayor & Council of View Royal,

I am writing to invite you to participate on a team representing View Royal in the 2022 Commuter Challenge on Thursday, May 19th.

The Commuter Challenge is a fun car VS bike race to Downtown Victoria. Groups of one cyclist and one motorist start from a location of their choice and race to the finish line on the lawn of the Empress. The catch? Drivers must find parking.

Are you up for the Challenge?

The event reminds people that they already have time committed to commuting to work and demonstrates that getting there by bike is often a faster and more fun choice. Each year, high-profile members of the community including politicians, police and fire chiefs, and members of the business community, take part in this event. We’d love to have View Royal involved this year.

To participate, we would need you to provide:

  • the name of the cyclist and driver participating on your team
  • The participants’ title/department/organization they’re representing
  • Their chosen starting point for the Commuter Challenge [someone’s home (what neighbourhood?) or a landmark ex. Uptown, Juan de Fuca recreation centre, etc.)

Participants should aim to arrive at the finish line on the lawn of The Empress as close to 8:30 am as possible. To get the most out of this fun event, please have someone available to take a short video or photos of your team leaving the starting point! We would love to see how the start of your race goes.

Bell Media will be on-site with an emcee creating an opportunity for you/your organization to be profiled. We will also be serving a light breakfast, graciously provided by The Empress.

Please let me know by April 22nd or at your earliest convenience if you’d like to enter a team this year.

I look forward to hearing back!

Best,
