AVICC Resolution: Modernize the municipal police cost sharing formula
A proposed resolution requesting that the province revise funding formulas for municipal policing based on population tiers.
AVICC Resolution: Modernize the municipal police cost sharing formula
Whereas the Province’s housing bills will dramatically and unexpectedly increase the municipal populations growths without proportionate compensation for inflated policing costs
Whereas the policing costs have already escalated from salary increases, new equipment such as body cams, and increased workload (wellness checks, hospital reliance on policing) etc.
Whereas many police buildings are unable to accommodate the capacity of more officers, support staff, increasing daily operations, and secure storage of equipment (vehicles, body cam maintenance)
Be it resolved that the province forthwith revise the funding formulas for municipal share of policing costs as follows:
- Municipalities less than 9,999 pay 50% of policing
- Municipalities with populations from 10,000 – 19,999 pay 70%
- Municipalities with populations from 20,000 to 39,999 pay 80%
- Municipalities with populations of 40,000 or more pay 90%
And further that the above modernization be effective before the next national census of 2026
