COUNCIL AND COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE 2024 MEETING SCHEDULE
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council adopt the Council and Committee of the Whole 2024 meeting schedule.
PURPOSE:
To provide Council with the 2024 schedule for Council and the Committee of the Whole meetings.
DISCUSSION:
The proposed 2024 Council and Committee of the Whole meeting schedule (provided as Attachment “A”) is in keeping with the provisions of Procedure Bylaw No. 677 and the 2024 – 2028 Financial Planning Calendar dates approved by Council in June 2023.
The Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities’ Convention is being held from Friday, April 12, 2024 to Sunday, April 14, 2024 in Victoria. The Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Annual Conference is set for Thursday, June 6, 2024 to Sunday, June 9, 2024 in Calgary. Neither of these events, should Council members wish to attend, conflict with the proposed 2024 Council and Committee of the Whole meeting schedule.
The Union of British Columbia Municipalities’ (UBCM) annual convention and AGM will be held Monday, September 16, 2024 to Friday, September 20, 2024 in Vancouver and conflicts with the second Council meeting in September 2024. Due to this conflict, it is proposed that there only be the first Council and the Committee of the Whole meetings held in September.
In keeping with past practice over a number of years, the first proposed meeting in January is the Committee of the Whole (set for Tuesday, January 9, 2024) given that Town Hall will be closed for winter holidays and will re-open on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
CONCLUSION:
As noted above, the proposed meeting schedule is in keeping with the provisions of Procedure Bylaw No. 677, the 2024 – 2028 Financial Planning Calendar dates approved by Council in June 2023, and also incorporates the Union of BC Municipalities’ annual conference and AGM should members wish to attend.
Accordingly, the report recommendation is as follows:
THAT Council adopt the Council and Committee of the Whole 2024 meeting schedule.
