Driveway Access at 20 Jedburgh Road
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council authorize the paving of extra driveway width on municipal road allowance behind the newly installed sidewalk on the south side of Jedburgh Road from 7.0 metres to approximately 9.5 metres at 20 Jedburgh Road.
CHIEF ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICER’S COMMENTS:
I concur with the recommendation.
DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT SERVICES’ COMMENTS:
I concur with the recommendation.
DIRECTOR OF CORPORATE SERVICES’ COMMENTS:
I concur with the recommendation.
PURPOSE OF REPORT:
As part of the residential development occurring on Jedburgh Road, the developer was required to install concrete curb and sidewalk. As a result, driveway accesses had to be reinstalled.
BACKGROUND:
A driveway access to the subject property was constructed to the allowable width of 7.0 metres as set out in the Town’s Streets and Traffic Regulation Bylaw No. 609 for residential property. A request was received from the property owner to expand the width to 9.5 metres behind the new sidewalk which was the approximate size prior to the roadway improvements and which would facilitate the parking of three vehicles abreast in the portion of the driveway on municipal road allowance.
If the request is granted, the cost to pave the extra width will be borne by the property owner. Once the extra width is granted, staff does have a concern at some point the portion of the driveway on the private property that is currently grassed may also get paved, creating a massive parking lot of approximately 48 square metres in this residential neighbourhood.
ALTERNATIVES TO STAFF RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council denies the request.
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT Council authorize the paving of extra driveway width on municipal road allowance behind the newly installed sidewalk on the south side of Jedburgh Road from 7.0 metres to approximately 9.5 metres at 20 Jedburgh Road.
