Details of Your Organization’s Grant Request
1) Nature and goals of the project: We are seeking funds to help sustain our youth programming throughout the next school year. These programs are an asset to your community because they encourage a healthy, active in a socially inclusive environment thereby keeping youth off of the streets and out of trouble. The crime prevention component means less stress on your police force to deal with vandalism, drug and alcohol abuse and petty crimes. We are asking for your support from The Township of View Royal because Shoreline Community School Association has become a local hub for community programming in View Royal.
Youth Programs, community facility use, drop in recreation and registered evening education have been the core of Shoreline Community School Association’s offerings each year. The non-profit association has been working with the Greater Victoria School District, local municipalities, businesses and other non-profit organizations to make this space accessible to the community members regardless of their socioeconomic status.
Our biggest challenges with these projects are finding adequate funding for food, supplies and staffing. For many years we have had privilege of partnering with the School District allowing us to access the facility at minimal cost including custodial maintenance. Shoreline Middle School may be going through a seismic upgrade come July 2018. It is essential to our youth and community that we stay within the View Royal area in order to provide continued programming. Without the support of Shoreline Middle schools facility use we are left looking for an alternative space which will lead to additional rental costs. We are seeking some of the municipal funding from the Township of View Royal in order to alleviate some of these costs.
As a goal for this upcoming year, we look forward to re-establishing and offering a wider variety of community education as well as increasing our youth programming. In the fall we have partnership with local sports organizations and Pacific Institute of Excellence (PISE) to provide additional youth and adult recreation programming.
2) Summary of direct and indirect benefits to the Town of View Royal taxpayers: Shoreline Community School has become a community centre for this municipality. Our location is central making it convenient for View Royal residents from all neighbourhoods to access programs. SCSA’s non-profit status allows for fundraising from donors to subsidize staff and supply costs. With View Royal’s investment in programming the Coordinator is able to attract almost $110,000.00 in grant revenue and donations. These revenues generate impact to the Town of View Royal and its residents through activities that create community connectedness. Youth Programs, drop-in recreation and accessible facility space are the ways in which Shoreline directly and indirectly benefits the Town of View Royal.
