Details of Your Organization’s Grant Request

1) Nature and goals of the project:

  1. Pollinator plants, rain garden and fruit trees and small fruit plants. Project would include building beds for plants, purchasing plants and preparing soil for planting. The pollintor plants supplement the mason bee project which has already been implemented successfully. Pollination and bio diversity will be enhanced as a result.
  2. Rain barrels installed to store rain water from shed roof at the garden. Creates an additional water source for the garden making us move “water-wise.”

2) Summary of direct and indirect benefits to the Town of View Royal taxpayers:

These two projects will exist as demonstrations in the community of the benefits to the ecosystem by encouraging bees and other pollinating insects. Increased biodiversity benefits the park as a recreational destination and can serve as a model for community members to implement in their own backyards.

The rain barrels will serve the same purpose and the garden will model water conservation and in the long run hopefully water cost reduction at the community garden.
