4. MAYOR’S REPORT

The Mayor noted that he, several members of Council, and the Chief Administrative Officer attended the 2017 Federation of Canadian Municipalities Conference in Ottawa. He then welcomed the new Director of Finance, D. Christenson, to the Town.

a) R. Bickel, 4-1500 Glentana Road, View Royal Park Community Garden Society, Re: 2017 Grant-in-Aid Request and Draft Proposal of Five Year Plan

Mr. Bickel spoke to Council in regard to the View Royal Park Community Garden Society 2017 grant-in-aid request and estimated costs for their “View Royal Park Urban Agricultural Project – Five Year Plan” proposal.

Council requested that the discussion of grant-in-aid funding for the View Royal Park Community Garden Society be brought forward to the June Committee of the Whole meeting for discussion.

b) B. Fetherstonhaugh, Shoreline Community School Association, Re: 2017 Grant-in-Aid Request and Use of Funding for Programs and their Beneficiaries

Ms. Fetherstonhaugh spoke to Council in regard to funding required for the programs held at Shoreline Community School. She highlighted community benefits and organizational strengths; other funding sources; and the Association’s goals.

Council requested that the discussion of grant-in-aid funding for the Shoreline Community School Association be brought forward to the June Committee of the Whole meeting for discussion.

8.1 STAFF REPORTS

a) Development Variance Permit No. 2017/01 – 18 Fenton Road

  1. Report dated May 30, 2017 from the Senior Planner The Senior Planner gave an overview of the report to Council. Council and staff discussed massing, elevations, and tree protection. It was noted that the application deals solely with a variance to size in square metres and not height.

  2. Comments from the Applicant G. Haymes, described that the proposed addition will be in keeping with the form and character of the existing home with a building height of 1.5 storeys.

  3. Comments from the Public a) J. Knight, owner of 278 Plowright Road, stated his opposition to the application due to the siting of the proposed addition. He noted concerns regarding setbacks from the property line; size of the proposed addition; and protection of existing trees.

b) 2951 Craigowan Road (Christie Point) Transportation Update

  1. Report dated May 31, 2017 from the Director of Engineering The Director of Engineering gave a summary of the report to Council. Council and staff discussed trees, proposed lane length on Island Highway, and traffic flow.
