COUNCIL AND COMMITTEE OF THE WHOLE 2018 MEETING SCHEDULE

RECOMMENDATION:

THAT Council adopt the Council and Committee of the Whole 2018 meeting schedule.

PURPOSE OF REPORT:

To provide Council with the 2018 schedule for Council and Committee of the Whole meetings.

DISCUSSION:

The proposed 2018 Council and Committee of the Whole meeting schedule is provided as Attachment “A”.

The Association of Vancouver Island and Coastal Communities’ Convention is being held April 13-15, 2018 in Campbell River. This event date does not conflict with the proposed 2018 Council and Committee of the Whole meeting schedule.

The 2018 Union of British Columbia Municipalities’ Convention is being held in Whistler from September 10-14, 2018 which conflicts with what would otherwise be the September Committee of the Whole meeting (September 11, 2018). It is proposed that the September Committee of the Whole meeting not be scheduled and instead any business matters that would have gone to that meeting be moved to the second Council meeting in September (September 18, 2018).

The Town’s Procedure Bylaw states that no Council meetings or Committee of the Whole meeting will be held in the month of a “local government Mayoral and/or Councillor election”. Therefore, there will be no Council meetings or Committee of the Whole meeting held in October 2018.

Finally, the first proposed meeting in January 2018 is the Council meeting (set for Tuesday, January 9, 2018) given that Town Hall will be closed for winter holidays and will re-open on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. This results in a shifted calendar to accommodate three meetings in January.
