Dear Lindsay Chase
Re: Official Community Plan Amendment OCP00005 Regional Context Statement
Please accept this letter as our formal referral for a proposed amendment to the Regional Context Statement contained in the District of Oak Bay Official Community Plan. With the 2018 adoption of the Capital Regional District Regional Growth Strategy, the District of Oak Bay is now looking to update the Regional Context Statement to be consistent with the Regional Growth Strategy.
The proposed amendment was brought forward to Municipal Council at their regular meeting of July 22, 2019, and Council gave first and second readings to the OCP amendment bylaw. The bylaw has now been referred to the Board of the Capital Regional District for their review and acceptance prior to further consideration by Oak Bay Council.
Section 475 of the Local Government Act states that during the development of an official community plan, or the repeal or amendment of an official community plan, the proposing local government must provide one or more opportunities it considers appropriate for consultation with persons, organizations and authorities it considers will be affected. In this case, the proposal would amend the District of Oak Bay Official Community Plan.
As a Core municipality of the Regional Growth Strategy, the Town of View Royal may have an interest in the proposed amendments to the Official Community Plan. As such, it would be greatly appreciated if you would review the attached information and provide any written comments you may have to this office by October 11, 2019. The proposed amendments would then proceed to a public hearing, and your response will be included in a public hearing package submitted to Council on this date.
Please send your response to myself at djensen@oakbay.ca.
If you have any questions on the proposed amendments, or if you require further information, please do not hesitate to contact this office at (250) 598-2042, ext 7403.
Yours truly,
Deborah Jensen, MCIP RPP Manager of Planning Building and Planning Department
