What is the Community Energy Coach?
Community Support The Community Energy Coach works with community organizations to:
- Support community-based promotion and engagement of the CleanBC Better Homes programs to build awareness of home energy improvement and fuel-switching opportunities.
- Support the implementation of Heat Pump Group Purchase Rebate initiatives in your community.
- Provide outreach and engagement support at public events and workshops.
Community organizations include:
- A community association
- A neighbourhood association
- A service-based organization or club
- A group of friends, family members, or neighbours
The Province of B.C. offers free energy coaching services to assist community organizations to engage community members on energy efficiency and home heating fuel-switching opportunities, as well as take advantage of the CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program rebates and the CleanBC Heat Pump Group Purchase Rebate. Promote the Heat Pump Group Purchase Rebate

The GPR rewards groups of homeowners working together to switch from natural gas, oil or propane heating to an air source heat pump.
GPR Rebate Amount Based on Group Size
- GPR amount is based on the final group size, the rebate is paid out as a separate rebate cheque mailed to the applicant (second payment). Amount is determined once the code has expired.

- The CleanBC Better Homes and Home Renovation Rebate Program is offering $3,000 heat pump rebates for fuel switching from fossil fuel to a heat pump in addition to the Group Purchase Rebate.
- Select municipalities have Municipal Offers of up to an additional $2,000 that can be accessed only when converting from fossil fuel heating (natural gas, oil, or propane) to an electric air-source heat pump.

- Important note: Homeowners must register with the program to access this offer.
- Code format includes the expiry date for clarity (e.g. GPRXXXX-EXPDD/MM/YYYY)
Heat Pump Low-Interest Financing Program
- Interest rates: 0% or 4.99%, depending on heat pump efficiency
- Loan size: $1,000 – $40,000
- Amortization period: 60 months (5 years)
- Your home must be primarily heated with:
- Natural Gas
- Propane
- Oil
- Premises primarily heated by wood or other solid fuels are not eligible.
- Upgrades must be installed by a Finance Registered Contractor.
- You must have a residential utility account with FortisBC, BC Hydro or a municipal utility.

Canada Greener Homes Grant
- Up to $5,000 towards upgrades plus up to $600 towards EnerGuide Evaluations
- Homeowners must register in the Homeowner Portal and have both a Pre- and Post-Retrofit EnerGuide Home Evaluation
- Home must be a primary residence
- Not applicable to renters, or landlords
- Grants can stack with the CleanBC rebates, up to 100% of the total cost

Fund a Municipal Top-Up

Many municipalities have added top-up rebates to further incentivize retrofits.
Top ups range from $350 to $6,000.

Launch a GPR Group in your community by:
- Read through the GPR Program Guide
- Email the Community Energy Coach
- Register for the GPR by starting a new ‘seeded’ group

PACE Financing (Property Assessed Clean Energy)
- PACE allows property owners to borrow money to finance measures (typically energy efficiency and renewable energy measures) and repay the loan through a surcharge via their property tax bills.
- Some municipalities are exploring PACE Financing Programs through funding received through the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (program funding now closed)
- Financing programs also expected from both the Provincial and Federal governments (early stages, details pending)
