A report from the Chief Administrative Officer providing an update on Town operations and public health compliance during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Report to Special Council
Re: CAO Update
Meeting Date: April 14, 2020
to avoid unnecessary contact with contractors. The Bylaw Department is queuing files that are non-emergency and focusing on life safety issues. On March 12, the Bylaw Officer began a detailed inventory of businesses that were open, closed and scheduled to close with a goal of speaking to every business in View Royal and distributing health information on social distancing and worker/customer safety. All businesses were covered by March 20, 2020. Currently the Bylaw Officer is working through the public health orders and assisting VIHA and the Public Health Officer with the provincial directives. The business community has been very receptive to the information supplied and voluntary compliance has been successful. The Bylaw Department also identified the Town’s vulnerable population and have worked closely with stakeholders to ensure they are cared for and receive the support needed during this difficult time.
At time of writing, April 8, 2020, we are fortunate to have no recorded cases of COVID-19 in our Fire Department ranks, and all career and volunteer staff and their families remain healthy.
RECOMMENDATION:
THAT the report dated April 2, 2020 from the Chief Administrative Officer titled “CAO Update” be received for information.
