Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association Report

October 29, 2020

Mayor and Council Town of View Royal 45 View Royal Avenue Victoria, BC V9B 1A6

RE: Grant -in-Aid 2020 Report

Honorable Mayor and Esteemed Town Council,

Greater Victoria Crossing Guards Association would like to express appreciation for your continued support of the service we provide to the View Royal Community.

We are able to report that the school year September 2019 to June 2020 was successful from our perspective as there were not traffic incidents involving children travelling to or from school. We were able to fill the second position at Admirals/Craigflower/Old Island Hwy from February to March and then that crossing guard worked in June as well. Those positions are now vacant according to the funding decision made by View Royal Council for this school year.

The Helmcken Road position at View Royal Elementary School was filled September to March however at the return to school in June the regular crossing guard was not able to return fully to that role. She performed the service occasionally as her work inside the school permitted. The population of students was low and the community was able to ensure the children were safe as many parents were available to walk with their children.

The intersections near Eagle View were supported by our regular crossing guards September to March and again in June.

We have posted a note of appreciation for the grant on our Facebook page but have no printed material. We do include the funding news in our staff communication so they know who is really providing their paycheque. We also discuss the funding at our staff meetings.

Please find enclosed a financial report of the program in View Royal for September 2019 to June 2020. We show a credit balance of $988.08 coming into the Sept 2020- June 2021 year.

The program was fully supported by your generous grant.

Respectfully,

Audrey Smith President, GVCGA
