Official request from BC Housing to extend shelter operations and confirm intent for a formal rezoning application.
May 24, 2016
Mayor David Screech Township of View Royal 45 View Royal Avenue Victoria, BC V9B 1A6
Dear Mayor Screech:
Re: Youth Detention Centre, 94 Talcott
On behalf of the Provincial Rental Housing Corporation (PRHC), I would like to confirm our intent to apply to have the property at 94 Talcott Road rezoned to the appropriate land use. In addition, I would ask for Mayor and council's consideration in an extending the operations of Choices Shelter for a further seven months to March 31, 2017.
The Choices Shelter has proven itself to be a successful shelter with strong support from the Community. Neighborhood meetings are conducted regularly and there have been minimal concerns brought forward. We thank View Royal for their participation at these meetings and for the support of the shelter.
I am pleased to let you know that operational funding for the shelter is in place till March 31, 2017. As well a contract of purchase and sale is in place with the Ministry of Technology and Citizens' Services for the purchase of the facility at Talcott Road. It is our intent that once the property transfers, that PRHC will work with Township staff in rezoning the property to the appropriate land use.
I would like to thank Mayor and Council for consideration of this request as well as relay our appreciation for your support of the Choices Shelter.
Yours truly,
Heidi Hartman Acting Regional Director, Vancouver Island Region
